New Delhi: Travellers! There’s some good news for you. In a bid to encourage digitization and promote cashless transaction, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has started a lottery system where you can get 100 per cent cash back.
According to a report in the DNA, passengers would have to purchase the rail tickets via official website – IRCTC, and the payment has to be made through their app – BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) or UPI (Unified Payment Interface).
If you want to avail this offer, while making payments, passengers have to opt for one of the two apps. Every month five persons will be chosen through a random lottery and would get 100 percent cashback. Winners would be individually contacted by phone and email.
The move will further push centre’s most ambitious digitization move and would reduce long queues at ticket counters.
According to the report, the lucky draw scheme had been started at the end of last year and will be continued until March 2017 on a trial basis. After March, a meeting would be held to decide whether it would be continued or not.
IRCTC had been giving free travel insurance to passengers having confirmed tickets.
Earlier, the Railways had expanded its SMS alerts for departure delays of over an hour to more than 1,000 trains, including premium and superfast express trains.
Meanwhile, the year 2017 proved fruitful for UPI — the mobile-only digital payment mechanism of National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) as it maintained the growth momentum by clocking 145.5 million transactions in December against 105 million in November, reporting a growth of around 38 per cent.
